Falling in Love with Patience

I think I am falling in love with patience.

There are still boxes. Things that don’t work the way I imagined they would. Plans that have changed. Parts of my work that are moving much more slowly than I thought they would. New routines, new relationships, new places — and plenty of moments where I still feel insecure and wonder what I am doing.

It is so far from perfect. And somehow, I am really happy.

A few weeks ago, I was writing about being in the middle of transition. About stepping into something new before knowing exactly how it would feel. At that point, we were still very much in between.

Now, I can feel that something has shifted. We have landed.

Not in the sense that everything is settled or figured out. But this place is beginning to feel like home. I have fallen a little bit in love with where we are. With our surroundings. With the small routines beginning to form. With new people coming into my life and relationships slowly being born.

And maybe most importantly, I have watched my girls begin to find their feet. I noticed something in myself when that happened. As I saw more ease in them, I felt more ease in me. And suddenly so many of the other things I had been worrying about seemed less urgent.

The work will come. FLOW will grow. The house doesn’t need to look exactly as I imagined yet. I don’t need to have the next year figured out. There is time.

That sounds incredibly simple, but I think this has been one of my biggest aha moments lately.

There is time.

I have spent so much of my life wanting to move things forward. Creating, building, planning, doing. And I still love that part of myself. I am curious. I get excited. I have visions and ideas, and there are so many things I want to create.

But I am beginning to understand that patience is not the opposite of movement. Sometimes patience is what allows the right movement to happen. It gives things time to reveal themselves before we decide what they should become.

It gives relationships time to grow. It gives our children time to find their own way. It gives a new place time to become home. And it gives us time to hear ourselves again.

I don’t have to conquer anything right now. I can be excited and insecure at the same time. I can have dreams for FLOW without forcing them into existence. I can be curious about what is coming without needing to know exactly what it is. And I can let what is already good be enough for today.

My life right now is messy and busy and sometimes feels like double or triple work. But underneath all of that, something feels calmer.

I am here.

FLOW is still moving — perhaps more slowly than I imagined, but it is moving with me.

Maybe patience isn’t just waiting. Maybe patience is being present enough to let life unfold before we rush to decide what it is supposed to look like.

And right now, that feels like a very good place to be.

With warmth,
